Tarp tent Notch with Solid inner tent
Polyester 20D outer fabric
The patented Notch is our lightest non-Dyneema double-walled shelter. This tent is ideal for trekking pole users who want extra protection against condensation, without an excessive cost in weight. Versatile and lightweight the Notch is perfect for a through-hike or in-season adventure. Want more space? Take a look at the StratoSpire 1.
This tent is sold with Solid inner tent, tent pegs and tent peg bag.
Note! The tents need to be seam sealed (seamseal), silicone is not included. See link for info: Backpackinglight.se - Sealing tent seams
Weight: 803 grams
Our thoughts
The Tarptent Notch is a solo tent and it is a 3 season, Silnylon tent. I have used it in all types of weather all year round. It has been used in gusty storms, snow, winter temperatures down to minus 13℃, hard rain and hot summer weather.
Seam sealing
It is recommended that the seams be sealed with a silicone-based sealer before use. After the seam sealing the weight amounted to 836 grams, which includes the Partial Solid inner tent + two apex pulls for tensioning the tent. This weight does not include tent pegs.
Pitching
The Notch is very easy to set up. It only takes a couple minutes to do it. I attached my trekking poles anywhere between 110-115 cm. The Notch is packed down in a long sausage-like package. This shape is a bit cumbersome to pack sometimes. If I have my smaller HMG Windrider 2400 backpack, I attach it to the lid.
Likes.
- It's narrow in width and the size is great for set up in those small, awkward places where a slightly larger tent can't be set up
- Notch's 836 grams is an acceptable lightweight tent (weight after seam sealing)
- Easy to get in and out from both sides
- Very easy and quick to put up
- Not expensive
- With 109 cm internal height there is plenty of room to sit up
Dislikes
- You can leave the doors open in light rain but there is not much space from the outer tent to the inner tent, so be careful not to let rain get into the inner tent
- If the wet flysheet comes into contact with the inner tent, which happens sometimes when I leave the tent, water splashes can get into the inner tent.
Features of the tent
- Made with 20D polyester nano ripstop that won't sink when wet and retains less water than nylon also rated to over 3,000mm hydrostatic head
- Premium materials and components: YKK zippers, US-made Easton® poles, carbon fiber stays, Spectra® webbing
- Excellent wind performance due to low draft shape and small panel sizes
- Steep walls shed snow and small panels minimize the potential for snow loading
- Integrated inner pockets and clips for gear and storage
- Double doors and vestibules allow easy entry and exit as well as extra storage space for gear
- Trekking poles can be oriented upward or upright with optional adapters
- Double wall design separates you from condensation
- Fly and interior can both be set up independently
- Places fly first to keep interior dry when setting up or taking down in the rain
- Large and adjustable high and low ventilation options help minimize condensation while providing storm protection when needed
- Patented PitchLoc™ carbon fiber pole corners increase interior volume and stability, struts are easy to remove
- Easy and quick 4 stake pitch, can be pitched in under 1.5 minutes
- Contact line cut curves for taught stable pitching
- Protected entrance/exit keeps the interior dry in case of rain
- Fits wide sleeping pads up to 63.5 cm wide
- Note: Interiors (mesh or solid) are interchangeable and cut in and out from under the fly. You can order either interior at a later date, or the "Both" option means you order the fly and two interiors. The solid interior (which has two-thirds solid, one-third mesh walls and solid roof panels) blocks horizontally blowing wind, sand, snow and rain. It makes the tent up to 8 degrees F warmer in windless conditions.
Features
Room for one person + gear. Two doors and two vestibules. Double wall. Fits a wide sleeping pad. Mesh or solid inner tent. Outer and inner tents can be set up independently of each other. Requires a minimum of 110 cm trekking poles or optional tent pegs.
