Trangia

Our history
Trangia was founded in 1925 by John E. Jonsson. His passion for technology and his interest in design were shown at an early age. After opting out of a life as a farmer, John and his father-in-law started the company that has led the Swedish storm kitchen industry for generations. They started by making household utensils in aluminum, but in connection with the number of vacation days increasing for Swedish workers in the 1930s, the demand for camping equipment grew. Trangia decided to focus on the development of cooking products especially for camping.

In 1938, John's two sons, Olle and Erik, began working with their father, and in 1951, the first prototype of the Trangia kitchen was developed and launched. The idea was to build a compact and complete cooking system that burns liquid fuel, as this was the most efficient form of fuel and also the easiest to use. The company and its ingenuity have been passed down from generation to generation, Trangia is still completely family owned.

The name Trangia comes from the village of Trång. John chose to remove the circle above "a" and then add "ia" for "in aluminum". For decades, the name has been one of the outdoor industry's strongest brands both in Sweden and internationally. Trangia represents long experience, solid competence and modern design. The Trangia kitchen as a product has been developed and refined during its 60 years. The Trangia kitchen is still manufactured in Sweden, in the same village where John E Jonsson started the business 90 years ago. The proximity to the mountain world has made practical tests in harsh weather conditions a natural part of the business. Details have been modernized and the function has been optimized over time. But the original, ingenious design is still the key to today's successful Trangia kitchen.
