Hyperlite Mountain Gear Windrider 55L - the original that started it all

When the Windrider was launched in 2009, it was the start of something bigger - a new vision of what a backpack could be. Lighter. Stronger. Smarter. Since then, countless hikers have taken their Windriders through deserts, mountains, rainforests and snowy valleys. It has become a symbol of reliable performance in an ultralight package.

The new generation Windrider 55L builds on that history - with improved comfort, smarter details and the most durable material yet.

Built in new woven Dyneema
The main material is now fully woven Dyneema 200D, which combines exceptional durability with very low weight. The new Dyneema Woven Composite 3.9 fabric weighs as little as the previous Hybrid 3.8 but is stronger than the heavier Hybrid 5.9. It's 100% waterproof, softer on the skin and rustles less in the cold - perfect for long rides in changing climates.

Visibility, access and ventilation
What makes the Windrider unique are the three large mesh pockets on the outside. They provide quick access to a rain jacket, tent or water filter, while allowing wet garments to dry while hiking. This system makes the Windrider the most open and easily organized model in the HMG range - perfect for those who want order and simplicity in one.

Improved comfort and fit
New shoulder straps with a natural curve around the neck for better ergonomics and freedom of movement.
Sewn-in back panel with a slight curve follows the shape of the body and provides better stability.
A 1/4-inch foam padded back plate provides extra cushioning.
Two removable, shaped aluminum bars distribute weight when packing heavy, but can be removed to save weight.
Double density foam hip belt with Dyneema Hardline pockets - durable, breathable and easy to reach, with YKK #5 zippers.

Smart and weatherproof details
Roll-top closure with vertical compression straps keeps cargo compact and protected from rain.
Y-strap on top to attach extra equipment, such as a tent or sleeping pad.
Side compression straps can be removed or used for external packing.
Daisy chains provide more attachment points.
All vertical seams are tape reinforced, significantly increasing water resistance.
Hydration system with suspension loop and new hose outlet (hydroport).
Possibility of internal removable pocket (sold separately).
