The Gramjakt Insulated Food Bag, Large is designed for a different purpose than our smaller food bag. With a 7.5-liter insulated capacity, it serves as an ultralight cooler and warmer for hiking, skiing, day trips, and other outdoor activities.

In the summer, it helps keep drinks, butter, cheese, chocolate, and other food cool as temperatures rise. In the winter, it works the other way around, slowing the cooling of items such as sandwiches, snacks, hot dogs, and drinks, so the contents don’t freeze as quickly.

This makes it just as useful during a warm mountain hike as on a cold day on the slopes when a snack is waiting in your backpack.

Insulated like a food bag—shaped like a pod

The Large uses the same insulating principle as our smaller model, with PrimaLoft insulation and aluminum-reflective, water-repellent outer and inner materials. The design, however, is significantly more expandable.

When filled, it expands and takes on a three-dimensional pod-like shape. This allows for efficient use of space while still being easy to stuff into a hiking backpack.

The insulated section holds 7.5 liters, a volume we’ve verified through volume measurements here at Backpackinglight.se. The total volume can be expanded to about 8.5 liters, but then some of the contents end up in the roll-top section, which isn’t insulated. That’s why we list the usable insulated volume as 7.5 liters.

Many Uses

On a hike, it can be used as your regular food bag while also providing extra protection for items that are sensitive to heat or cold. For example, it’s great for your daily meals, sandwiches, cheese, butter, chocolate, fruit, snacks, and drinks.

In the winter, you can pack your entire day’s snacks into it before stowing it in your backpack. For cross-country skiing, summit hikes, snowmobiling, ice fishing, or a day on the ski slopes, the insulation helps keep the contents protected from the surrounding cold.

In the summer, it functions as an extremely lightweight and packable cooler bag. Feel free to add a small ice pack or a cold drink along with your food to keep the temperature down even longer.

When not in use, it takes up very little space compared to a traditional cooler bag.
