The Mountain Raid hooded jacket also offers an alternative to a full sleeping bag and insulation layer when combined with the Mountain Raid PA half bag or the Omm mountain raid pants to create a minimalist sleeping system.

Our thoughts

It was only two years ago I first discovered The OMM, there in my ignorance at the Outdoor show in Friedrichshafen in Germany, I was blown away. These guys were making some of the lightest, most functional outdoor gear on the market, and I had never heard of them. Their gear is specifically designed for the harsh mountain conditions of the OMM races. The OMM stands for “The Original Mountain Marathon”. These are annual mountain marathons held in Scotland and in the Alps. The gear is heavily tested to hold up in these kinds of events - which is why they normally have very well designed, lightweight functional gear. Insulation is always Synthetic or fleece, as down simply won’t hold in those races. The gear has to be light enough to run a marathon with and breathable enough to not create sweat buckets.

In anycase, after my trip to Germany I bought a few of The Omm clothing and backpacks and have never looked back. I more or less use the Omm Mountain raid hooded jacket or it’s lightweight cousin the Rotor smock, daily. Both as a city jacket and in the wilds, summer, winter or fall the Mountain raid jacket does it’s job. If I have any complaints it would be the way it fits around my stomach.. I have a fairly slim body build and find the Mountain raid hooded jacket is rather round around the stomach. While this is just fine for the outdoors as I usually have other clothing underneath and need the extra space, it does look a little funky in the city.

The jacket itself is very comfortable, warm and light for being a synthetic bag. The craftsmanship and materials are top-notch, and the Mountain raid jacket can easily be attached using different connectors to the Mountain raid pants or PA raid bag to create a complete sleep system for three season use.

• Doesn’t compress as small as Down
• A bit large around the stomach
