Our thoughts:
IS there a better down jacket on the market than the Rab Zero G? None that I have tested anyway. The Rab Zero-g is the lightest, warmest, roomiest jacket in it's class. Far warmer than jackets of similar class from competitors. The Zero g is able to accomplish this by using the lightest down available: 1000+cuin. So while most jackets in the same weight class have down 700-800, this one uses 1000+cuin. Which in pure technical terms means a far lighter and warmer jacket. This has been my goto jacket for the last year and a half and I absolutely love the jacket. Warm and light enough to always have it on the trail with me, summer and winter. But roomy and city enough to have it as a daily jacket.
Weight:
320 g for the Xl that I have.
Warmth:
I have several down jackets that I used to bring with me on different trips. While still high quality they just didn't keep me as warm as the Rab zero-g does. Even though it is a light down jacket, it will easily keep you warm even in minus temperatures with just a T-shirt on. I don't know of any other jacket in the weight class that I can say the same about.
Fit:
Like everything Rab makes, the fit is perfect. Atleast for me, I'm not sure how a much smaller person would feel in them, but my guess is that nobody really likes wearing gear that is so tight that you feel like a piece of sausage. In other words, the Zero-g is a great fit, and I dare say, most people will like the proportions.
Plus:
- Great fit and quality
- Lightest possible jacket
- Warmest jacket in it's class
- Good sized side pockets
Minus:
- Expensive compared to some jackets
