Skalmo DCF Outer Gloves – Ultralight Protection Against Rain and Wet Conditions
Keep your hands protected during rainy hikes with our ultralight outer gloves made from DCF and Woven DCF. The gloves are manufactured in Umeå and combine low weight with a compact pack size. A pair in size Medium weighs about 24 grams in white or camo.
The long cuff extends over the wrist, and an elastic drawstring keeps the glove securely in place. Wear the cuff under the sleeve of your rain jacket or rain poncho so that rainwater runs off the outside of the glove.

Size Guide
The gloves are available in Small, Medium, Large, and XL. They are roomy enough to be worn over an inner glove. The following hand measurements are approximate guidelines.

How to measure: Wrap a measuring tape around the widest part of your hand, just above the thumb. Measure without tightening the tape. If you fall between two sizes, choose the larger one if you plan to wear a thicker liner glove.
Weight and Material
- Green: Made from lighter 0.8 oz DCF. Weight approximately 25–28 grams per pair, depending on size.
- Gray: Made from heavier-duty DCF. Weight approximately 32–34 grams per pair, depending on size.
Tested on long hikes
The gloves have been field-tested by long-distance hiker Peter Bergström, who uses a Medium size and has given them high marks. I, the author, use an XL size (previously Large), which fits my large hands well.
Why We Developed These Outer Gloves
During long hikes, we’ve tested many different rain gloves. In persistent rain, we’ve often found that our hands get cold and that moisture eventually seeps through.
DCF is a waterproof material that keeps the rain out and provides light protection for your hands. However, the material isn’t breathable, which means moisture from your hands can build up on the inside. Therefore, choose your inner gloves based on temperature and activity, and air out your outer gloves when the weather permits.
Several of our customers who hike the Green Ribbon Trail have requested this type of lightweight outer glove for long hikes in persistent rain.
For maximum comfort, we recommend wearing a thin liner or inner glove under the outer gloves.
