Spacious enough for tall hikers

The Rainbow is a 1+ tent, meaning it’s designed for one person who wants a little extra room to move around. With a floor length of 224 cm and a maximum interior height of 107 cm, there’s plenty of room to both lie down and sit comfortably. Tarptent recommends this model for people up to approximately 198 cm tall.

The 91 cm floor width accommodates wide sleeping pads and leaves room for smaller gear. The large vestibule allows you to store your backpack and shoes outside the sleeping area.

Easy setup and flexible weather protection

The Rainbow sets up quickly with one pole and six stakes. The design is single-wall with an integrated inner tent, which reduces weight and the number of separate tent components.

For those who hike with trekking poles, there is the option to set up the tent freestanding. Two trekking poles measuring at least 109 cm are used together with the included adapter kit. However, trekking poles are not needed for standard setup.

You can also use trekking poles as extra support under the upper crossbar in strong winds or under heavy snow loads. In “porch mode,” the vestibule fabric can also be lifted to create a sheltered space in front of the entrance.

Well-designed ventilation and condensation management

The larger peak vents, the ability to adjust ventilation along the bottom of the tent, and the openable vestibule help create airflow through the tent.

Internal condensation channels collect and drain water that forms on the inside of the tent fabric. The partially solid inner wall provides extra protection against wind and dust at sleeping height.

A separate condensation liner is available as an option. It attaches to the inside of the roof and creates an extra protective layer between you and any condensation on the outer tent fabric.

Good to know before your first trip

Seam sealing: Rainbow is made of silicone-coated fabrics and requires seam sealing to be completely rainproof along the seams. A seam-sealing kit is included. Check the seams and their waterproofness before your first long hike.

Carbon fiber or aluminum? The carbon fiber poles are very lightweight and are a good choice when minimizing pack weight is a priority. However, carbon fiber is less forgiving than aluminum when subjected to severe bending and extreme loads.

Ground protection: The durable nylon floor normally requires no additional footprint. However, on particularly sharp or abrasive surfaces, a separate ground sheet is recommended.

Condensation: As with all single-wall tents, condensation can occur in damp and cold conditions. Use the ventilation options and, if possible, choose an airy campsite.
