    Hyperlite mountain gear Ultamid 4

“If you can splurge on the lightest-and-best gear for your big days, then the UltaMid should make your short-list...” –Elevation Outdoors Mag

Providing maximum coverage at a minimum weight, the Hyperlite mountain gear UltaMid 4 pyramid tent is stripped down and dialed in to meet the exacting requirements of passionate, goal-oriented adventurers. This ultralight four-person tent takes harsh conditions in stride all four seasons of the year. It handles, wind, rain, snow, sleet and hail better than traditional tents with much smaller footprints. Use it with the mesh insert for added bug protection, or with the HMG UltaMid 4 Insert with DCF11 Floor if you’re traveling in wet climates. We recommend you use adjustable trekking poles for set up. Add UltaMid Pole Straps to lash poles together. Available in Classic White or Spruce Green. Stake kits sold separately.

    With guy lines: 1.36 lbs | 21.8 oz | 618g

    Our Thoughts:

When I started Backpackinglight.se a couple of years ago, the first retailer I contact was HMG. If nothing else I knew I wanted to bring Hyperlite mountain gear to Sweden and Europe, if all else failed, at least HMG would be here. I didn’t want to just offer them at any price either, my goal with backpackinglight has always been to give customers the best gear on the planet at prices cheaper than importing by themselves. This is not always possible, but for the most part we have succeeded in that goal. With that said, I was more than happy that Dan (co-founder at HMG) got back to me almost instantly, Professional, good natured and willing to work. He even sent some gear for me to test out first. Now, unbeknownst to him, I had actually been using the Ultamid 2 and Windrider for years before he sent out the gear, but the gesture was truly appreciated, and it showed a true professionalism on his part.

Pyramid style tents are my favorite - they are simplistic in design, easy to setup and with the exception of the most extreme everest style 4 season tents, nothing beats a solid pyramid tent in stability. The Ultamid 2 and 4 are at the apex of pyramid tents. They are the best pyramid style tents on the market, and when compared to other DCF (cuben fibre tents), they are usually at a competitive price point. The HMG Ultamid 2 and 4 are big investments, but what you get for the price is unmatched. These tents are light, strong and will probably hold for a lifetime. I have had my Ultamid 2 for almost four years and have spent nearly 100 nights in it in all kinds of weather and wind, year round. It’s my go to tent for any situation.

The Ultamid 4 at 600 grams including guy lines is simply astounding in weight to size ratio - and stronger than any tent on the market that I can think of. I originally bought the Ultamid as a replacement for the MLD Duomid that I was using quite a bit at the time. I liked the Duomid but it had a few negative aspects that I didn’t care for. The Ultamid had fixed those negatives in spades. Though, I if I were to do it all over again, I would probably go with the Ultamid 4 as it’s about twice the inner space which is fantastic for the circumstances I now find myself in (Family, friends, packraft, bicycles and so on). That's not to say the Ultamid 2 is small, it’s not, it’s the largest two man tent I know of.

Some things to keep in mind when using single walled tents

    1. Condensation is more noticeable than with double walled tents
    2. The steep walls on pyramid tents means you need to stick towards the center for maximum comfort
    3. The tent can be adjusted tighter to the ground for better wind protection, or adjusted higher for better ventilation.

If there is anything I would change on this tent it would be that an inner tent is included in the price of the tent. There are times, especially here in Northern Sweden when an inner tent is absolutely essential, it would have been nice to have it included.
