The world’s lightest freestanding double-wall tent

The Durston X-Dome Pro 1+ combines the weight-optimized and functional X-Dome geometry with advanced materials such as Dyneema® Composite Fabric and a carbon fiber pole from Easton. The result is an extremely lightweight, spacious, and weatherproof freestanding tent for one person—with plenty of extra space.

With a total weight of just 780 grams, the X-Dome Pro 1+ is the world’s lightest freestanding double-wall tent. Despite its low weight, you get a large floor area of 2.2 m², generous headroom, a spacious vestibule, and a design developed for demanding 3-season use.

Well-thought-out geometry

The award-winning and patent-pending X-Dome design was developed from the ground up to create a more spacious, simpler, and more functional tent using less material and weighing less.

The geometry creates more usable space from less tent fabric and a stronger structure with a lighter pole set. Unlike many other freestanding tents, it features a simple rectangular outer tent shape, while the placement of the inner tent creates a spacious vestibule next to the door opening.

In the Pro version, this geometry is combined with some of the most advanced materials available for ultralight tents: Dyneema® Composite Fabric, a next-generation pure carbon fiber pole set from Easton, and lightweight premium zippers from YKK.

Built for Harsh Weather

The X-Dome Pro 1+ isn’t just designed to be lightweight. Its construction is built to perform when the weather turns bad.

The structurally optimized carbon fiber pole provides high stability for reliable 3-season use. For even tougher conditions, hiking poles can be used as extra support. The poles are positioned in a unique counter-directional configuration and complement the crossbar to form a sturdy third pole.

With hiking pole support and storm lines installed, the X-Dome Pro 1+ approaches the performance of a 4-season tent. The design has been successfully tested in winds exceeding 100 km/h. At the same time, Durston recommends using a generous safety margin and not deliberately exposing the tent to conditions near its maximum capacity.

Protection When the Weather Changes

  • The outer tent is pitched first —this keeps the inner tent dry when setting up in the rain.
  • Low outer tent hem —reduces the risk of rain splashing under the outer flysheet.
  • Protected door opening —the overhang helps keep rain out when the door is open.
  • Double-wall construction —separates you from any condensation on the outer fabric.
  • Dual peak vents – improve ventilation and help reduce condensation.
  • Dyneema® fabric – absorbs minimal water, doesn’t sag when wet, and is highly waterproof.

Exceptionally spacious for its weight

The X-Dome Pro 1+ shares the generous interior dimensions of the standard X-Dome 1+. This means a large floor area, good headroom, generous sleeping length, and an unusually spacious vestibule for a tent in this weight class.

The floor measures 2.2 m², which is on par with some smaller two-person tents. For a solo hiker, there is therefore plenty of room inside the tent for both a sleeping system and gear. If needed, a second person can also fit inside.

The diagonal floor length is a full 230 cm. Combined with the nearly vertical short sides, this makes the X-Dome Pro 1+ particularly appealing for tall hikers.

The inner tent’s maximum height is 108 cm, and this height is maintained across a larger portion of the tent than in many competing models. This provides plenty of headroom and makes it easier to change clothes, organize gear, and spend more time inside the tent.

The vestibule is also a full 0.85 m², with room for items such as a backpack and wet gear, while still leaving space at the entrance.

100% freestanding

One of the major advantages of the X-Dome Pro 1+ is how easy it is to set up. The basic shape is rectangular, and the pole system is fully interconnected, meaning fewer loose parts to keep track of.

The tent is also 100% freestanding. Not even the vestibule requires a tent stake to maintain its basic shape. This means you can adjust the number of stakes based on the terrain and weather, rather than having the tent’s design require certain points to always be anchored.

The outer and inner tents can be stored connected and pitched simultaneously for quick setup. The design is also very flexible and can be pitched in several ways:

  • Outer tent first
  • Outer tent separately
  • Inner tent separately
  • Outer and inner tents connected

Dyneema® Composite Fabric

The X-Dome Pro uses Dyneema® Composite Fabric 0.55 for the outer tent and Dyneema® Composite Fabric 0.67 for the floor.

These materials reduce the weight of the tent fabric by about half compared to traditional ultralight tent fabrics, while also increasing strength. Dyneema® also absorbs very little water and does not stretch in the same way as many nylon fabrics when wet.

This means the tent retains its tension better in the rain and can be shaken almost dry before being packed away.

Easton Poles Made of Pure Carbon Fiber

The X-Dome Pro uses a second-generation carbon fiber pole from Easton. The design incorporates carbon fiber even in the joints between pole segments, instead of heavier metal components.

The result is an all-carbon-fiber construction with lower weight, high strength, and improved reliability.

Bonded seams

The Dyneema® panels are joined with bonded seams. This construction creates seams that are both strong and highly waterproof without traditional stitching through the outer fabric.

Trekking poles for extra support

For truly harsh conditions, the X-Dome Pro can be reinforced with hiking poles. They are placed in a counterbalanced configuration that directly supports the tent’s side walls while increasing the structure’s overall strength.

Combined with a well-anchored pitch and storm lines, this can elevate the tent’s performance to a 4-season level.

Up to 12 storm line points

The X-Dome Pro offers up to 12 possible storm line attachment points for challenging weather conditions. These include two points on each tent leg, two on the crossbar, and additional attachment points from the ridge pole.

This makes it possible to keep the setup minimal in good conditions and significantly reinforce the tent when the forecast calls for it.

Full double-wall construction

Despite its extremely low weight, the X-Dome Pro is a full-fledged double-wall tent. The design keeps you separated from condensation on the outer tent while also making the tent modular.

There’s also the option of a sturdy inner tent for users who prioritize extra protection against wind and colder conditions.

Smart details

Dual roof vents

Two adjustable vents near the tent’s highest point improve ventilation and help reduce condensation. The vents can be closed in strong winds.

Dual inner pockets

The inner tent has two storage pockets: a smaller pocket near the door that’s perfect for items like a phone and headlamp, and a larger, wide pocket on the short side for clothes and other gear.

Four hanging points

Four interior loops allow you to hang items such as lighting or lightweight gear.

Large door opening

The tall door opening makes it easier to get in and out of the tent. Its placement also keeps the outer door within easy reach, so you can open and close it without having to lean far out of the tent.

Magnetic door holders

Both the outer and inner doors feature magnetic door holders that make it quick and easy to secure open door panels.

The vestibule doesn’t block the entrance

The vestibule is positioned next to the door opening rather than directly in front of it. This allows you to store gear and other equipment under the outer tent without blocking the way in and out.
