The Skalmo Alpha Pants 60 are designed for those of us who want to shave off grams without sacrificing performance. We sew them ourselves in Umeå using Polartec® Alpha Direct 60—a material that has become a favorite among long-distance hikers, mountain hikers, and weight-conscious adventurers worldwide.

The result is an extremely lightweight midlayer that offers impressive warmth relative to its weight, high breathability, and minimal pack volume. A garment that performs just as well while you’re on the move as when you’re sitting still at camp or crawling into your sleeping bag.

Many garments feel light in your hand. The Alpha Pants 60 are one of the few that actually feel light even after several days on the trail.

Why no pockets?

Because they aren’t needed.

Every detail on the Alpha Pants 60 has been carefully considered to justify its weight. Pockets, zippers, and other details add weight, take up space, and are rarely useful on a garment primarily used as a mid-layer, camp pants, or sleepwear.

We’ve therefore chosen to keep the design as clean as possible. Less weight. Less hassle. More function.

Many people buy the Alpha Pants 60 as an active mid-layer, but quickly discover that they’re used just as much as sleepwear.

As the temperature drops in the evening, it’s often just a few degrees that determine whether the night will be comfortable or whether you’ll lie there shivering. A pair of Alpha Pants 60 can provide exactly the extra margin you need.

Polartec® Alpha Direct creates a very airy structure that traps still air while allowing excess heat and moisture to escape. The result is exceptionally high warmth relative to weight, without the garment feeling stuffy or bulky.

In practice, this means the pants can often boost the comfort of your sleeping system by a few degrees. For many, it’s one of the easiest ways to make your sleeping bag warmer without having to switch to a heavier one.

When the day’s hike is over, they work just as well in camp as they do in your sleeping bag. One garment, multiple uses, and very few grams to carry.

Made in Umeå

Every pair of Alpha Pants 60 is sewn in our own production facility in Umeå.

We produce on a small scale, which allows us to focus on details that are often overlooked in larger-scale production. This gives us better control over quality, the ability to continuously improve our products, and a closer connection to what we actually make.

We don’t make products for next season. We make products that we ourselves want to use on our next trip.

Fit & Sizes

Polartec® Alpha Direct is very stretchy and flexible, which allows the pants to adapt well to both the body and the layers worn on top or underneath.

The pants are slightly longer than many standard models and have a forgiving fit that works just as well as a midlayer under shell pants as it does as casual camp and sleepwear.

• S – approx. 160–170 cm
• M – approx. 169–179 cm
• L – approx. 179–188 cm
• XL – approx. 188–200+ cm

Size Recommendation

Normally, choose the same size you wear in base layer pants or sweatpants.

If you’re between two sizes:

• choose the smaller size for a more form-fitting look
• choose the larger size for maximum comfort in camp and as sleepwear

Thanks to the fabric’s stretch and the pants’ extra length, the sizes accommodate a wider range of heights than usual.
