Load capacity

The Hyperlite Mountain Gear Aspect 32 is an ultralight and durable backcountry backpack designed for day trips on skis, splitboarding, and ski mountaineering. Weighing just 774 grams in size Medium and with a pack volume of 32 liters, it combines low weight, high durability, and features specifically tailored for movement in snow and alpine terrain.

The Aspect 32 is made from Dyneema® Woven Composite 5.0, an extremely durable material that offers very high abrasion and tear resistance relative to its weight. The slim, body-hugging design ensures the backpack stays stable during both ascents and descents, while also providing good freedom of movement in technical terrain.

The backpack features a separate zippered avalanche compartment, quick access to the main compartment via a side zipper, and flexible attachment systems for skis, splitboards, and ice axes. It’s a well-thought-out design for those who want to move efficiently between different activities during a backcountry tour.

Designed for ski touring and ski mountaineering

On summit tours, the backpack needs to perform just as well during long ascents as it does during technical descents. The Aspect 32 therefore features a minimalist design without unnecessary details that could snag on gear or restrict freedom of movement.

The slim profile keeps the pack close to your back and contributes to a stable feel while skiing. With a 32-liter capacity, there’s room for avalanche gear, extra layers, food, water, and other gear for a full day in the mountains.

The separate compartment for avalanche gear makes it easier to keep your shovel and probe organized and easily accessible. The main compartment is accessible both from the top and via a side zipper, which is especially convenient when you need to quickly retrieve gear during your trip.

Features and Details

  • Dyneema® Woven Composite 5.0: Highly durable main fabric with excellent resistance to abrasion and tears from sources such as ski edges and rocks.
  • Ultra-lightweight construction: Weighs only 774 grams in size Medium, making the Aspect 32 an attractive option for weight-conscious backcountry skiers.
  • 32-liter capacity: Designed for day ski tours with room for safety gear, extra clothing, food, and other gear.
  • Separate avalanche compartment: A zippered compartment on the front of the backpack with access from both the outside and inside for organized storage of avalanche gear.
  • Quick access via side zipper: Makes it easy to reach the main compartment without having to open the backpack from the top.
  • Drawstring closure with top flap: Easy and quick opening at the top, complemented by a sewn-on top flap.
  • Pocket in the top flap: Zippered storage for small items such as ski goggles, gloves, or snacks.
  • Internal removable pocket: A practical zippered pocket that can be removed when not needed.
  • Flexible ski carry: Two removable side straps allow you to carry skis in an A-frame configuration or a splitboard vertically.
  • Prepared for diagonal ski carry: Special attachment points for the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Diagonal Ski Carry Kit, sold separately.
  • Dual ice axe loops: Allows you to carry two ice axes or ice tools on the outside of the backpack.
  • Vertical daisy chains: Two rows of attachment points on the front provide options for adding additional gear and accessories.
  • Additional attachment points on the sides: Four loops on each side for compression straps or Voile Straps.
  • Removable back panel: A 3.2 mm foam panel provides structure and comfort but can be removed to reduce weight.
  • Ergonomic shoulder straps: Reinforced with Hardline and padded with approximately 9.5 mm of foam, plus spacer mesh for comfort and durability.
  • Minimalist hip belt: 38 mm wide strap with a gear loop and attachment point for an ice climbing carabiner.
  • Adjustable chest strap: Removable and adjustable chest strap, 19 mm wide.
  • Weather-resistant construction: The Dyneema materials provide excellent protection against snow and moisture, but the backpack is not completely waterproof.

Smart details that make a difference on a summit tour

Quick access to avalanche gear

When skiing off-piste, it’s important that your safety gear is organized and easy to reach. The Aspect 32 features a separate zippered avalanche compartment on the front. The compartment is designed to keep items such as a shovel and probe separate from the rest of your pack.

This separate storage ensures that the gear stays in a designated spot and doesn’t get mixed in with extra layers, food, or other gear. Always check the placement and accessibility of your avalanche gear with the specific equipment you use.

Ski Carrying System Adapted to the Terrain

The Aspect 32 can be adapted for several different ways to carry skis. The removable side straps allow you to attach the skis in an A-frame configuration, with one ski on each side of the backpack. The system can also be used for vertical transport of a splitboard.

For those who prefer diagonal ski carrying, there are special attachment points for the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Diagonal Ski Carry Kit. This accessory is sold separately and allows you to quickly attach your skis diagonally across the backpack during steep ascents or technical sections.

Stable Fit and Maximum Freedom of Movement

The slim, body-hugging design is one of the Aspect 32’s most important features. By keeping the pack close to the body, the backpack minimizes its impact on balance while skiing and during quick changes of direction.

The padded shoulder straps and minimalist hip belt provide a combination of stability, comfort, and freedom of movement. The removable foam panel adds extra structure while also allowing you to customize the backpack based on your load and intended use.

Dyneema for heavy-duty use in the mountains

Ski backpacks are often subjected to heavy wear from sharp ski edges, ice axes, and contact with rocks or hard snow. That’s why the Aspect 32 uses Dyneema® Woven Composite 5.0, a highly durable material with a high strength-to-weight ratio.

The material absorbs minimal water and helps keep the backpack’s weight down even in damp conditions. The construction provides good protection against snow and light precipitation, but for sensitive gear, a waterproof stuff sack or pack liner is recommended.

Size Guide – Hyperlite Mountain Gear Aspect 32

To choose the right size for the Aspect 32 , it’s your back length—not your height—that matters. The correct size ensures a better fit and helps the backpack stay stable and close to your body while skiing.

How to Measure Your Back Length

  1. Locate the C7 vertebra: Tilt your head slightly forward and feel for the distinct vertebra at the base of your neck. This is the seventh cervical vertebra and the starting point for your measurement.
  2. Measure along the spine: Ask someone to help you measure with a soft measuring tape from C7 downward along the spine’s natural curve.
  3. Find the upper edge of your hip bone: Place your hands on your hips so that they rest on the iliac crests. Let your thumbs point backward toward your spine.
  4. Complete the measurement: Measure down to the point where the tape measure crosses an imaginary horizontal line between your thumbs. This distance is your back length.

Size Chart

Size Back Length
Small (S) 38–43 cm
Medium (M) 43–48 cm
Large (L) 48–53 cm

Between two sizes? If your back length falls right on the border between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger size. For example, if your back length is 43 cm, you should choose Medium instead of Small.

Tip: Feel free to ask someone to help you when measuring. An accurately measured back length ensures better stability and comfort while both climbing and descending.
