EFFICIENT DESIGN
Three-piece hiking poles are popular because they can be easily stored on the side of your backpack. But almost all three-piece poles have one common flaw: double adjusters.
Dual adjusters are unnecessary because a single adjuster provides sufficient adjustability. In fact, a second adjuster adds weight, complexity, increases the risk of slipping, and makes it more cumbersome to set the rods to the desired length. The Iceline rods solve this with a better solution: they replace the lower adjuster with a quick release mechanism. This creates a shorter packed size (comparable to four-piece rods) while making the rod lighter, simpler and more reliable. In normal use, they function as a two-piece rod, but the tips can be disconnected for a more compact pack size if needed.
We've also carefully optimized every part of the pole to eliminate unnecessary weight. This includes a tighter grip that requires less glue, a lighter integrated tip design, and a matte finish that not only looks beautiful but also saves grams compared to a glossy lacquer finish.
Thanks to this weight-efficient design, Iceline rods can redistribute weight to the areas that really matter: stronger tubes and a more reliable external adjuster. The result is a lighter, more durable and user-friendly trekking pole that sets a new standard for efficiency and performance.
STRONG
Iceline rods are very durable for a lightweight trekking pole because they use premium carbon fiber of the highest strength and larger diameter tubes, making them more weight-efficient (both stronger and lighter).
In particular, the non-telescopic design of the lower coupler allows for thicker 16 mm tubes for the tip section. Other rods with telescopic lower couplings have to use narrower tubes for the tip section (usually 12 mm), which makes these rods weaker where they are most exposed to potential damage. The 16 mm tubes here significantly reduce the risk of the rod breaking.
Iceline rods are a robust rod that can hold more weight in a horizontal load test than comparable rods, while having about half as much bending. This low bending and high strength provides a more secure experience and reduced risk of breakage.
QUALITY & RELIABILITY
Iceline rods are custom built for Durston in Austria by Komperdell (a reputable manufacturer of high-quality rods for over 100 years). Even the storage bag is high quality, reusing Dyneema® fabric from our Pro Series tents that would otherwise have become scrap to provide a super lightweight (5g) way to store the rods.
A key aim of the Iceline poles was to improve reliability and ease of use. Other lightweight rods often use internal 'twist' adjusters that are prone to slipping, or if they use external adjusters, plastic parts are used. Whatever the solution, double adjusters double the risk of problems. With the Iceline rods, the single adjuster reduces the risk and provides a more reliable external style with premium aluminum parts. The lower quick release is also very reliable with aluminum parts and no risk of it slipping.
In conclusion, the efficient and patent-pending design of the Iceline poles sets a new standard for ultralight hiking poles. Weighing 134g, they are the world's lightest hiking poles that are both compactly packable and length-adjustable, while being stronger and more reliable than other poles in this weight class. This makes them a joy to use for everything from a day trip across the Grand Canyon (Rim-to-Rim) to a multi-week hike through Alaska's Brooks Range.

Ultralight
The Iceline poles are the world's lightest adjustable trekking poles with a weight of 134 g / 4.7 oz per pole (version without strap). The super light weight makes them an easy and enjoyable experience to use on the trail.
External Adjustment
The upper adjuster on the Iceline is a proven external adjuster (commonly called flick locks), which is more reliable, easier to repair, and simpler to adjust compared to internal ("twist lock") adjusters. It also uses premium aluminum parts instead of a plastic lever.
Dyneema Storage Bag
A Dyneema storage bag is included for safe storage of the rods. These bags are made from scrap Dyneema fabric from our X-Mid Pro tents.
Larger Diameter of Tubes
The Iceline poles use larger diameter carbon fiber tubes because it is more weight-efficient (stiffer and lighter). The top section is 18 mm (compared to 14 - 16 mm for competing rods), while the middle and bottom sections are 16 mm (compared to 12 - 14 mm). The larger diameter makes Iceline rods both stronger and lighter, especially at the tip where walking rods usually break.
Compactness
Iceline poles can collapse to just 49 cm (19.5") for easy storage on the side of a backpack. Other three-piece poles usually pack to 22-25".
Quick Connect Mechanism
The lower connector uses a simple and reliable quick connect mechanism that is proven and damped to avoid rattling.
High modulus carbon fiber
Iceline rods use high modulus premium carbon fiber to create a stiffer trekking pole with less deflection under load.
Premium quality
Iceline poles are custom-made for Durston by Komperdell, based in Austria, and one of the world's leading manufacturers of premium hiking poles.
