X-Mid 2 - New for 2025
The X-Mid 2 has been heavily updated for 2025 with high-precision narrow seams and narrow seam tape, redesigned pockets, improved hardware and our new 15D high-density silpoly material that significantly reduces weight while maintaining strength. The result is a weight reduction to just 880 g (1.9 lbs).
Pinnacle of Lightweight Tent Design
The X-Mid 2 has been developed from the ground up with geometry in mind to be the most weight-optimized and functional design for a trekking pole tent. Its innovative and patented geometry makes the X-Mid 2 exceptionally storm-resistant, spacious and lightweight. No other tent offers this level of space and protection for only 1.9 lbs (880 g/31 oz), which is why the X-Mid 2 has become one of the most popular tents on demanding hiking trails and one of the most awarded tents in recent years, with top awards from BackpackingLight, The Trek and Section Hiker.
STORM RESISTANCE
Most ultralight tents achieve their light weight by reducing size and trading durability and storm resistance for weight savings. In contrast, the X-Mid 2 saves weight through efficient design such as a structured solution with trekking poles, which are both stronger and lighter than traditional tent poles, and a geometry that maximizes volume relative to fabric area. In this way, the X-Mid 2 achieves its low weight while being a robust shelter for tough conditions.
The X-Mid 2's long list of protections includes a double-wall design, full coverage of the outer tent (which goes low to the ground to block drafts and splashes), set-up of the outer tent first (which keeps the inner tent dry when set up in the rain), polyester fabric (which doesn't sag and absorb water like nylon), large adjustable vents, rugged water-resistant coatings, durable fabrics, factory water-resistant seams, and protected doorways that keep the rain out even when they're open. No other tent offers this full list.
In addition to this protection, the X-Mid shape is well suited to windy and snowy conditions because each panel has a consistent moderate pitch. Other tents have flatter roof panels that trap snow and flat walls that trap wind, while the X-Mid 2 places each panel at a balanced 50-55 degree slope to provide strong performance all around the tent.
USEFULNESS
In tough conditions, you want a tent that just works, which is why carefully detailed attention has been paid to making the X-Mid 2 both simple and intuitive.
It starts with the simple set up which is quick with just 4 required ground pegs. There are no mandatory guy ropes, weird angles, measurements or ostriches, which is a stark contrast to most tents with trekking poles.
The ease of use continues once the tent is pitched, with large doorways that are not blocked by trekking poles, spacious vestibules that are positioned at the doors instead of blocking them, magnetic door switches, handy pockets and zippers that can be used with one hand. Even the pack size of the tent has been carefully considered where the short pack bag can be stored horizontally in any backpack.
Notably, the X-Mid 2 uses polyester for the outer tent, which does not sag and absorb water like nylon, allowing your tent to remain tight and lightweight as well as drying faster, with less time spent adjusting the setup and drying the tent. Polyester was controversial when we launched X-Mid with it in 2018, but our passionate fondness for polyester has led to an industry transition, with many other companies now following our lead.
STYLISHNESS
The patented X-Mid geometry is the most space and weight efficient architecture possible for a trekking pole tent. This is achieved by an innovative double-diagonal design where the floor is placed on one diagonal and the ridge pole on the opposite diagonal. In this way, the two poles are placed further apart to increase the volume without requiring struts, while keeping them away from the edges to avoid a square shape that would be less storm-resistant and require more fabric.
The result is a "real" 2-person tent that offers comfortable space for two people. It includes a generous 52" wide floor and a long 92" length that accommodates hikers up to 6'4". The diagonal ridge pole increases headroom and allows the two people to move further apart for more personal space.
In addition, the double vestibules are spacious and easily accommodate backpacks and other items without blocking the doors or creating a long stretch to close the outer tent doors.

The ease of use continues when the tent is up, with large doorways that are not blocked by tent poles, spacious vestibules that are placed next to the doors instead of blocking them, magnetic door fasteners, a set of 4 thoughtfully placed pockets and one-hand zippers.
Even the pack size of the tent has been carefully optimized to a short shape that can be stored horizontally in any backpack.
SPACIOUS
The patented X-Mid geometry is the most space-efficient architecture for a double trekking pole tent. This is achieved with an innovative design that places the two poles further apart to provide greater volume and headroom, while keeping them back from the edges to avoid a square shape that would be less storm-resistant and require more fabric.
The result is a generously sized 2-person tent that offers plenty of room for two adults. It includes a 52-inch wide floor that accommodates the widest sleeping pads and a long 92-inch length that fits hikers up to 6'4" (193 cm). The diagonal roofline also allows the two users to position themselves further apart for increased personal space.
The double vestibules are also spacious, accommodating large backpacks and everything else without blocking the doorways.
QUALITY
Our focus on creating a highly functional and storm-resistant tent also means that we place great emphasis on quality. It's crucial that you can rely on your tent when you venture out in uncertain conditions.
To achieve this, the X-Mid 2 Solid is made by the most experienced tent factory in the world, which has been building tents for over 60 years. Our tents are assembled with premium materials, double stitching, double folded edges and generous reinforcement at vulnerable points.
We know of no other tent with trekking poles that uses double stitching to the same extent as we do. While this premium quality gives the X-Mid 2 a higher production cost than comparable tents, we keep the price affordable by selling directly to you without middlemen and with only a modest margin.
Optimal Geometry
The patented X-Mid geometry with staggered tent poles provides excellent storm resistance and easy pitching with less weight than any other geometry.
Spacious
The diagonal (staggered) roofline increases headroom and internal volume compared to other double pole tents.
Fabric that does not sag
X-Mid has pioneered lightweight polyester because it doesn't absorb water and bag like nylon, allowing the tent to retain its structural integrity in wet conditions. Our passion for polyester was initially met with resistance from many established companies using nylon, but has since led to polyester now being recognized as a better material and many competitors following our lead.
