Durston X-Mid 2 Solid

The X-Mid 2 has been significantly updated for 2025 with high precision narrow seams and narrow seam tape, redesigned pockets, improved hardware and our new 15D high tenacity silpoly fabric, which greatly reduces weight while maintaining strength. The result is a weight reduction to only 880 g (1.9 lbs with mesh inner) With the solid inner tent it weighs about 200 grams more.

The X-Mid 2 Solid is a variant of the award-winning X-Mid 2, designed for use during transition periods, in colder conditions and in windswept areas such as Northern Europe, while remaining an excellent all-round backpacking tent. Like its predecessor, it is developed from basic geometric principles to be the most weight-efficient design for a tent with trekking poles. No comparable tent under 1.1 kg offers such a well-balanced combination of storm resistance, spaciousness and simplicity. That's why the X-Mid 2 has become one of the most popular and highly awarded tents in recent years, with top awards from BackpackingLight, The Trek and Section Hiker.r.

STORM RESISTANT

Most ultralight tents are designed as fair weather shelters where they achieve light weight by compromising on durability and storm resistance. With the X-Mid 2 Solid, performance in tough conditions is a top priority, which is why the X-Mid saves weight through an efficient design. This allows us to create a tent that is both ultralight and capable of handling difficult conditions.

The X-Mid 2 Solid features a comprehensive protection package, including a full double-wall construction, a full-coverage outer tent (which extends low to the ground to block drafts and splashes), fly-first setup (which keeps the interior dry when pitching in the rain), polyester fabric (which doesn't bag and unravel like nylon), large adjustable vents, rugged water-resistant coatings, durable 20D fabrics, factory-sealed seams, and protected doorways that keep the rain out even when the door is open. No other tent offers this complete list of features.

USER-FRIENDLY

When you're tired after a long day or when conditions are tough, it's crucial to have a tent that works easily and intuitively. To achieve this, the X-Mid 2 Solid is designed with careful attention to detail and Dan Durston's extensive wilderness experience.

The result is the X-Mid's simple setup with only 4 required tent stakes. There are no mandatory guy lines, weird angles or guesswork, which is a refreshing contrast to most hiking pole tents that require numerous pegs, guy lines and stakes as part of a complex setup process.

The ease of use continues once the tent is up, with large doorways that are not blocked by tent poles, spacious vestibules that are positioned next to the doors instead of blocking them, magnetic door fasteners, a set of 4 thoughtfully placed pockets and one-handed zippers.

Even the pack size of the tent has been carefully optimized to a short shape that can be stored horizontally in any backpack.

SPACIOUS

The patented X-Mid geometry is the most space-efficient architecture for a double trekking pole tent. This is achieved with an innovative design that places the two poles further apart to provide greater volume and headroom, while keeping them back from the edges to avoid a square shape that would be less storm resistant and require more fabric.

The result is a generously sized 2-person tent that offers plenty of room for two adults. It includes a 52-inch wide floor that accommodates the widest sleeping pads and a long 92-inch length that fits hikers up to 6'4" (193 cm). The diagonal roofline also allows the two users to position themselves further apart for increased personal space.

The double vestibules are also spacious, accommodating large backpacks and everything else without blocking the doorways.

QUALITY

Our focus on creating a highly functional and storm-resistant tent also means that we place great emphasis on quality. It's crucial that you can rely on your tent when you venture out in uncertain conditions.

To achieve this, the X-Mid 2 Solid is made by the most experienced tent factory in the world, which has been building tents for over 60 years. Our tents are assembled with premium materials, double stitching, double folded edges and generous reinforcement at vulnerable points.

We know of no other tent with trekking poles that uses double stitching to the same extent as we do. While this premium quality gives the X-Mid 2 a higher production cost than comparable tents, we keep the price affordable by selling directly to you without middlemen and with only a modest margin.

Optimal Geometry
The patented X-Mid geometry with staggered tent poles provides excellent storm resistance and easy pitching with less weight than any other geometry.

Spacious
The diagonal (staggered) roofline increases headroom and internal volume compared to other double pole tents.

Fabric that does not sag
X-Mid has pioneered lightweight polyester because it doesn't absorb water and bag like nylon, allowing the tent to retain its structural integrity in wet conditions. Our passion for polyester was initially met with resistance from many established companies using nylon, but has since led to polyester now being recognized as a better material and many competitors following our lead.
