The Hyperlite Mountain Gear CrossPeak 1 is an ultralight, freestanding one-person tent for those who want to combine low weight with high comfort, quick setup, and reliable weather protection. Weighing just 813 grams, including the tent poles, it offers an impressive balance of low pack weight, durability, and space.
The CrossPeak 1 builds on the design of the CrossPeak 2 but is optimized for one person. The freestanding design makes the tent easy to pitch even on rocky ground, cliffs, and other locations where traditional tent stakes can be difficult to use.
The outer tent is made of Dyneema® Composite Fabric 0.55, and the floor is made of the heavier-duty Dyneema® Composite Fabric 0.96. The materials are completely waterproof, have high tear strength relative to their weight, and absorb minimal water. Combined with taped seams, this provides lightweight and effective protection against the elements.
Despite its compact design, the CrossPeak 1 is surprisingly spacious. With a length of 223 cm, an interior height of 107 cm, and room for a wide sleeping pad, the tent offers plenty of space for both rest and gear during long hikes.
The CrossPeak 1 combines a sturdy aluminum frame with well-thought-out reinforcements and multiple options for additional anchoring. The tent is designed for three-season use and is suitable for everything from long-distance hikes and mountain treks to camping in more exposed environments.
The high-quality DAC tent poles, made of 8.7 mm aluminum, form a stable, freestanding structure. In strong winds, the tent can be further reinforced with hiking poles on both the vestibule side and the inside of the tent, as well as with additional storm lines at the tent’s attachment points.
Ventilation is well-designed, featuring mesh panels along the lower sections of the tent and adjustable ventilation openings at the head and foot ends. This promotes good air circulation and helps reduce condensation.
Many ultralight tents require hiking poles and strategically placed tent stakes to be pitched. The CrossPeak 1, however, features its own freestanding pole structure, giving you greater freedom when choosing a campsite.
This is especially practical on mountain hikes where the ground may consist of rocks, hard soil, or rocky outcrops. The basic structure stands on its own without ground anchors, but the tent should always be securely anchored when used outdoors, especially in windy weather.
The CrossPeak 1 is designed to provide a more comfortable camping experience than is typically associated with ultralight solo tents. With an interior height of 107 cm, there’s plenty of room to sit up, change clothes, and organize your gear.
The floor is 223 cm long, 81 cm wide at the head, and 74 cm wide at the foot. This means that even wide sleeping pads—such as 64 cm-wide models—fit comfortably with space to spare on the sides.
A separate vestibule provides additional storage for shoes and other gear you don’t want inside the tent.
Dyneema® Composite Fabric, often abbreviated as DCF, has become a popular material among long-distance hikers thanks to its combination of low weight, high tear strength, and waterproofing.
Unlike many traditional tent fabrics, DCF absorbs minimal water and stretches very little when wet. This allows the tent fabric to maintain its tension better during rainy nights and prevents it from becoming noticeably heavier due to absorbed moisture.
The CrossPeak 1 uses DCF 0.55 for the outer tent and a heavier-duty DCF 0.96 for the floor to provide extra durability against ground wear.
The CrossPeak 1 is designed as a three-season tent but features several functions to handle harsher weather conditions. The reinforced storm anchors and the sturdy DAC frame contribute to excellent wind stability.
If needed, you can also use hiking poles as extra support in the vestibule and on the opposite side inside the tent. Additional storm lines can be attached at the head and foot ends, as well as at the tent pole attachment points.
This allows you to increase stability in strong winds. However, the tent is not classified as a true four-season tent designed for heavy snow loads.
The CrossPeak 1 features a single-wall construction with mesh panels around the lower sections of the tent. This contributes to its lightweight design and allows for air circulation without compromising protection against insects.
Two ventilation openings near the door, as well as adjustable ventilation at the head and foot ends, help expel moist air. As with other single-wall tents, condensation can occur in conditions of high humidity, low temperatures, and limited ventilation.
For best results, choose a well-ventilated campsite and keep the ventilation openings open when the weather permits.

With a floor length of 223 cm, the CrossPeak 1 offers plenty of space for a one-person tent. The relatively high ceiling height of 107 cm also makes it easy to sit up and handle gear.
For taller users, it’s important to remember that the practical sleeping length is affected by the tent fabric’s slope, the thickness of the sleeping pad, and the volume of the sleeping bag. The floor dimensions therefore do not equate to guaranteed free length at the head and foot ends.
The CrossPeak 1 is an excellent choice for those who prioritize low pack weight but don’t want to sacrifice the benefits of a freestanding tent. It’s particularly well-suited for long-distance hikes, mountain treks, and solo hikes where a combination of easy setup, good weather protection, and a spacious interior is important.
The Hyperlite Mountain Gear CrossPeak 1 combines modern Dyneema construction, well-designed ventilation, and sturdy DAC tent poles in a tent that weighs well under one kilogram. An interesting option for those looking for a truly lightweight one-person tent that offers high comfort and flexibility in choosing a campsite.
