About a month ago, @backpackinglight.se posted a call for a female test pilot to evaluate Altras @altrarunning's new Olympus Hike Mid GTX for women. I never usually register interest via similar posts as I always go in with the wonderfully positive attitude that "they will choose someone else anyway" or "I never win anything anyway". But then a DM from @backpackinglight.se came down and my initial feeling was: overjoyed. Then: "hell, they will never work for my knee" (for those of you who do not know, I have dislocated my right knee X number of times and operated on it even more). I have been told that the only thing that works for my knee - in terms of hiking with a pack - is heavy boots like my Meindl Island. But I was wrong.

"Altra's Olympus Hike Mid GTX are simply incredibly comfortable, whether I'm hiking without a pack or with (a mile with a 20 kg backpack was no problem). They are really stable with good grip despite their low weight and that it feels like you are hiking in a pair of sneakers with cloud cushioning and not in a pair of boots. Probably because of the Vibram sole design and the cozy wide toe box. I've walked over 50km in my Olympus since I got them and they've done their job regardless of the surface. During my and my sister's trip to Oviksfjällen we hiked through soaking wet mosses so I can also attest that the boots are waterproof as my feet (unlike my sister's
